Most people love to go to see a new movie. There is something about the large silver screen that still fascinates people to leave the comfort of their home to go to a movie theatre to see a motion picture. Although everyone has accepted talkie movies as the norm, there are some people who are captivated by the old silent movies of the bygone years. To cater to those film buffs, the Silent Movie Theatre of West Los Angeles has continually shown the De Noir silent movies that made Hollywood famous.
On one busy Friday night the Silent Movie Theatre became a crime scene as the owner and the concession clerk were shot while working in the ticket booth. After the shooting the suspect ran into the theatre continuing to shoot at random and escaped through the back fire door.
The police conducted a homicide investigation which focused on a possible robbery as the motive for the shooting. Months went by with no arrests and the detectives were about to place the police reports in the Cold Case cabinet. Before doing that, the detectives decided to contact the concession girl who had recovered from her gunshot injures. They asked her to seat down with a forensic artist to see if she could help create a composite of the shooter.
She agreed and the composite was published in the newspaper. A few days later, a young woman called the police and said that the sketch looked like her boyfriend. The detectives thought this had to be such a long shot, but the lack of clues made them follow up and interview the boyfriend. As a result, the case took on an unbelievable twist that no one could have anticipated.
